Through guided practice, experimentation, and exploration…
each lesson is tailored to the student’s individual desires and needs. During the first few weeks, lessons are student directed with ample opportunities for exploration of different materials and methods of art making. By observing how students explore various methods and materials as well as what types of materials each student gravitates toward, I can begin to create an individualized curriculum that attends to both their learning needs and preferences.
My private tutoring sessions range between 1 hour to 1.5 hours depending on the students’ ability to attend to the lesson. Some lessons may be shorter with more time for reflection and critique, while other lessons will be more focused on art making and producing.
Above all, I strive to instill a lifelong appreciation for the arts not just by teaching skills and methodology, but by teaching art as a way of life. Creative thinking, problem solving skills, and an acute awareness to our visual world extends beyond the visual arts and can positively impact the way a child interacts with the world on a daily basis.
I have experience teaching students K-12 both with special needs as well as typically developing students.
